Reunion island
Reunion is a small French island located in the Mascarene archipelago about 700 km east of Madagascar and 170 km southwest of Mauritius, the nearest land.
Reunion Island with its 2500 km ², offers incredible scenery reflecting an impressive mountainous relief and beautiful beaches where the weather is nice most of the year. The island owes its success to its cirques, rampart and peaks, which correspond to 40% of its surface, nature has given rise to major landscapes: the three main interior cirques of Cilaos, Mafate and Salazie, deep notches formed by the major rivers in the sides of the shield volcano, the plains dotted with peaks above sea level ... Reunion island is a very diverse tropical destination that will satisfy all those who willingly engage in outdoor activities like hiking.
The island has over 500 km of hiking trails for tourism. Through just a few miles we pass from the east coast with lush virgin rain forests to a lunar landscape of the Volcano “La Fournaise” devoid of vegetation, a must for visitors, with an average of 2 to 3 eruptions per year. The west region is dry with its beaches succeeded by small mountain roads to access the Cilaos, one of three impressive canyons inhabited on the island. The wild South coast is marked by the deep blue Indian Ocean, which contrasts with the green of the dense vegetation and black solidified lava flows.
The island of Reunion has also managed to preserve and enhance its architectural heritage that we can discover during walks in the historic centers of St Denis and St Pierre. Creole architecture is an art of living in Reunion Island. The word "case" is used to describe the history of this typical house with Reunion architecture envied by many. Moreover, in terms of accommodation, the island invites you to discover luxury hotels but also typically Creole cottages that are very popular for holidaymakers.
Reunion, as the name suggests, is a mosaic of races living in harmony, and bringing to the island a rich culture and a culinary that is unusual. Young, dynamic and very mixed, the population has its roots in Europe, Africa, India and China. This mixing produced a warm and welcoming culture where the sense of Creole prevails. Reunion Island is the place to discover at any cost.
