07 :00 : Departure towards the heights of the west. In a short span of time, we move from zero altitude to 2200 metres passing through a multitude of enchanting landscapes : savannah, mango plantations, sugar cane, flowered ravines, fields of Rosat geraniums, wild forests of the height to finally reach the majestic Cirque de Mafate as well as admire the beauty of the highest peaks of the island. It’s surely one of the best areas that overlook this cirque that is totally inaccessible by car. On the way back, stop around Petite France, to discover one of the treasures of the island in the company of a planter: the art of essential oils, more specifically the Rosat geranium of Bourbon. This artisan will demonstrate the funtioning of the Alambic used for the distillation of the geranium flower essence. Then we head towards the coast to visit the Musée de Villèle situated in the heights of Saint Gilles : the estate of the former residence of Madame Debassayns, which comprises of the Chapelle Pointue, a sugar factory whose construction began in 1825 on a 10 hectare ground.
